Tune of the Week

It wasn't long before a Haji & Emanuel remix managed to get on the scoreboard this year! This tune takes alot of the elements used for their remix of 'Pasilda' last year, and applies it to good affect again. I'd describe it as a 'Dark Latino' sound as it has a heavy bass line but still a latino piano feel to it. It might sound an odd description but it certainly works!

Haji & Emanuel have peppered this blog with their great remixes over the last year, but they'd never had a tune of their own on here, until now. This tune was around last year, and the original wasn't far off getting a mention on here, but now it's the turn of the new Stonebridge remix to feature. A nice addition of some piano to the tune and some good swirly synths make this an improvement over the original mix, in my opinion anyway.

My friend Si is busy worrying about the demise of house music through the sheer volume of eighties sampling cheese that is being released. He's not wrong. But this tune showcases house music as it should be. It is well produced, emotional and grows on you with every listen. Add to that the great vocals of Abigail Bailey (of Herd & Fitz - Just Can't Get Enough fame) and you have a great answer to the cheesy house being produced by the bucket load each week!

A total change of direction this week. This is the first hardcore tune I've ever put on this blog, but this week it certainly deserves the accolade. It is years since I really followed the hardcore scene, but I've decided to see how it sounding at the moment. Dougal's sound is very much like the trance of yesteryear, just faster! He and Mickey Skeedale have done hundreds of productions together (many of them being my favourite ever hardcore tunes) over the years but Mickey takes the credit on his own for this one! Perhaps the lack of a cheesy hardcore vocal makes this one a little more 'credible' than most hardcore releases.

The first tune for 2006 is by an act that were pretty big in 2005, having huge success with 'Love on My Mind' and getting a couple of remixes into this blog last year. This is set to be released early in 2006 and is likely to be as big a hit as their previous single. Interestingly, the Freemasons are the same guys who were behind Phats & Small!
